Ridley Scott originally intended for Prometheus to be a prelude to Alien but in-turn it has become a spin-off set in a alternate reality.
"Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well." -- Ridley ScottThis clip is a spectacular idea using a common science-fiction device, as well as tipping a hat towards 'the Corporation' in Alien.
The science-fiction genre often borrows something familiar from the real world, and inserts it into the fictional work, in this case TED Talks -- or in the case of Star Wars, the light-saber as swords, the blaster as gun, and the speeders as motorcycles. The technique integrates the old and gives it a spin of new as to make the video able to connect and become immersed in the fictional world, and in turn the film. This device is also highly notable in the sound effects of Star Wars as so they sound familiar but appear foreign, such as a wrench striking a taunt cable to produce the sound of a laser blaster.
As for the tipping of the hat, the character being introduced here, Mr. Weyland, is founding a company and the Corporation in Alien is called Weyland-Yutani. Ridley Scott has been quoted as saying this is the only connection between Prometheus and Alien.
